When I was a little girl, my Great Aunt Pat made me several crochet Barbie dresses out of crochet thread.
The dress in the picture on the left is one of the many. So, since things have been kind of slow at the Boutique lately, I decided to try something new.
I've never worked with crochet thread before, but I was feeling up for the challenge. I had to borrow one of my daughter's Barbies, to be sure that the pattern was working out correctly. This caused her some concern as she has only recently been given Barbies. I reassured her that I would return Barbie in one piece. Then my four year old stated that since I was making it with purple thread, it must be for her, since purple is her favorite color. I had planned to give her the dress all along, but it was funny to watch her mind work through how to convince me to give her the finished dress in exchange for borrowing her doll!!
Now, crochet thread is a medium that has always intrigued me, but I've never really taken the time to sit down and work with it. So, I knew I was in for a challenge. The hook that I had to use for the dress is by far the smallest that I've ever worked with. Quickly I discovered that this was going to require my full attention because everything was going to be so small that mistakes would be far too easy. I found that counting becomes a real chore when the stitches are sooo tiny!!
Oh, and another thing, because of the tightness of the twist of the thread, when it comes off the spool, it has a tendency to twist back on itself! Very tricky indeed!!
All in all, it was a fun experience, my daughter ended up with another keepsake, and now I've a whole new line of products to offer in my store!! So, as always, customer orders are very welcome, and keep an eye out for ready to sell items in the store!!!
