Eating Cleaner

My husband and I have struggled with weight loss for many years. We've tried several different things, and have managed to lose some weight. Lately, however, I've been feeling like I've hit a plateau. Well, maybe not so lately. Really, up until
about six weeks ago, I've maintained the same weight for over a year. Also, it was about a year ago that I started trying to be more adventurous in my kitchen!

So I decided that we needed a new strategy. I started researching because I wanted something that would work for the whole family, not just my husband and I. I love to cook and bake for the entire family, not different things for everyone. Also, my kids are very used to my home made baked goods. To the point that they won't even eat Oreos, Teddy Grahams, and other store bought goodies!

My researching for a plan that would suit us all finally turned up the concept of clean eating. I felt that it would work the best for our entire family by helping my husband and I to lose weight. As well as instill really good wonderful eating habits in my little ones. Clean eating didn't mean that we had to give up any of our favorite foods.

I jumped on Amazon and bought Audrey Johns' book, Lose Weight by Eating. Oh, and I went a little Pinterest crazy too. I have two boards, one that is just for clean recipes that I've discovered, and the other is for recipes that I know I could make cleaner by swapping ingredients.

Unintentionally, we had already started down the clean eating road by starting to limit processed foods. So, this ended up being a pretty easy transition, now that we had a plan.

I've also started working through family favorites, and recipes that have been handed down, to clean them up (and maybe shave a few calories too).

It has been a learning experience for my husband and I. It's been amazing, the weight that we've lost, the energy that we've gained, and even the kids have transitioned pretty smoothly into this new lifestyle. Wegmans has been immensely helpful throughout this process too. They have a label that they put on some of their Wegmans branded products. It's their "Food You Feel Good About" label, and it only goes onto items that are:
  • free of artificial colors, flavors or preservatives
  • free of trans fats from partially hydrogenated oils
  • fresh meats are from animals not given antibiotics, hormones or animal by-products
  • no high fructose corn syrup

I've been shopping at Wegmans for years, and knew about this product line, but I didn't realize that it's been on their shelves for over a decade!

Stay tuned for updates to most of the recipes that I've already shared, and many more new clean, and healthy recipes to come as I continue to get adventurous in my kitchen!!

I am going to start including nutritional information as well, so stay tuned!
